WELCOME!

Welcome to the website of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists (NCOBPS). Established in 1969, NCOBPS is the leading organization of black political scientists in the country. The majority of our members are faculty members at U.S. colleges and universities, and we also count a sizeable number of graduate students, elected politicians, and policy analysts among our ranks. We maintain organizational and intellectual connections with scholars in Latin America and Africa. Our shared interests in and concerns about the lived conditions of people of African descent around the world unite us. We are committed both to producing first-rate scholarship and to engaging in a range of activities that enrich both the study and practice of black politics.

We invite you to explore our webpage and learn more about our activities.

Desiree Pedescleaux, President

PUBLICATIONS

NCOBPS produces two publications that highlight the scholarship and professional activities of its members. The NCOBPS Newsletter includes the latest news about professional developments within political science, member activities, and organizational business. The National Political Science Review features research articles from all sub-fields within political science and book reviews. NCOBPS encourages the submission of information and articles to both publications.

In Pursuit of Excellence

The National Conference of Black Political Scientists strongly supports the development of political scientists and emerging scholars in pursuit of excellence in mentoring, teaching, writing, and research. Several NCOBPS awards are presented at the annual conference each year to colleagues who have made outstanding contributions to the field of political science. In addition, small travel grants are provided to students each year through the NCOBPS Graduate Assistance Program.
