Professor Ollie Johnson, Chair
Department of African American Studies
Wayne State University
5057 Woodward Avenue, Room 11002
Detroit, MI 48202

313-577-2321 work

This award honors Dr. W.E.B. DuBois (1868-1963), one of the most prolific and insightful academicians, writers and activists in human history. Books, whose subjects in some way grapple with fundamental questions of political power, race, and other intersections of oppression, are the best candidates for this award.  Authors/publishers should be in contact with the chairs for additional contact information about the committee members to whom the copies of the book and nomination materials will be mailed directly.  Books with a 2018 and 2019 publication year will be accepted for consideration.

The current curriculum vitae of the author(s) and a nomination letter that explains the strengths of the submission as an integrative work and how it meets criteria established by the award should accompany the book, which should be sent to Ollie Johnson.

Textbooks, analytic reviews, biographies, and edited volumes are not eligible for consideration.

There are no restrictions on nominees, and self-nominations as well as nominations by others are encouraged.

Deadline: December 1, 2019
