Barack Obama made history as the first Black elected as the 44th President of the United States on November 4, 2008.
CALL FOR PAPERS:
To Our Fellow Americans:
We are pleased to announce our plan to publish Letters to President Obama this coming spring, 2009. We would like to invite you to participate in this unique and meaningful project by contributing one of the letters.
No one could have predicted even two years ago that Barack Obama had the prospect of taking the oath of office as President of the United States in January of 2009. For many, an African-American rising to the most powerful position in our country is one of the most significant milestones of the Civil Rights Movement. For others, it is the opportunity to support someone who represents a modern, culturally diverse and progressive vision of what America can and should be in the twenty-first century.
We hope that you will want to contribute your own words, thoughts, perspectives and dreams in a letter for this new era in our history to the book, Letters to President Obama. If you decide to contribute a letter for the book or if you decide not to, we still want to know the concerns and issues that you would like most for the new President to address.
The 'polls' section and the political cafe in the 'discussion' section of this web site are the places where you may also share your concerns and views on current political, social and economic issues.
Thank you, Professor Hanes Walton, Jr. Professor Josephine A.V. Allen Dr. Sherman C. Puckett Professor Donald R. Deskins, Jr. |

"The 2008 Presidential Election"
The Ralph Bunche Journal of Public Affairs will be publishing a Special Issue on the 2008 presidential election. The historic election undoubtedly has called into question previously-held beliefs and may have toppled conventional wisdom. The 2008 elections also allow scholars to propose and test new ideas and theories that can potentially add to the body of knowledge. The Ralph Bunche Journal of Public Affairs welcomes those manuscripts and hopes they contribute significantly to our understanding in the major areas of political science, public administration, and public policy.
The Special Issue of the Ralph Bunche Journal of Public Affairs seeks qualitative, quantitative, and theoretical manuscripts along with essays highlighting the importance of the contest and the uniqueness of the 2008 presidential election. Papers that address the voting behavior of individuals and groups during the primary and general election phase, the influence of race and gender, the effects of media coverage, and the impact of candidate qualities, are especially welcome.
